RWA Tokenisation
Real-world asset tokenisation explained — how treasuries, private credit, commodities and property are moving on-chain, and what it means for investors in the tokenised asset economy.
Why Tokenised RWAs?
Real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation is the process of issuing a blockchain token that represents ownership of a physical or financial asset — from Treasury bills and private credit to gold, real estate and fine art. The token is programmable, transferable 24/7, and can be divided into fractional units that let investors buy in with far less capital than the underlying asset requires.
It's already happening at scale. BlackRock's BUIDL fund has surpassed $2 billion in assets on Ethereum. Ondo Finance tokenises US Treasuries for DeFi yield. Centrifuge and Maple Finance bring private credit on-chain. The total tokenised RWA market passed $12 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $16 trillion by 2030 according to Boston Consulting Group.
